How A Lady Led EPL Team To Victory On #StarSuperFans

For the first time ever, a lady has featured on Star Lager’s nationwide football platform, Star Football Superfans.

The lady, identified as Olaide Alison captained a team of EPL Fans, Fidek FC to victory against Primera Liga fans La Liga Star FC in one of this season’s high dramatic encounters on the TV game show.

Fidek FC was made up of Ebuka Chinwuba, Fidelis Nnamere, Prince Ikemefuna, Kingsley Iwunze and captain Olaide Allison – the first-ever female fan on Star Football Superfans. Their opponents La Liga Star made up of Phillip Ekwenze, Dele “Delex” Alabi, Kingsley “Somadina” Njaka, Kamal Okunola and Chidiebere Izundu

The first half of the encounter was thoroughly forgettable as both teams missed question after question to end the first half with just 10 and 20 points apiece respectively with the score deadlocked at 0-0. Host Mozez Praiz seemed almost relieved to blow the halftime whistle after a largely dull and turgid first half.

The second half brought a change in the pace of the game with it as the debate section kicked off with the question, “Between the Spanish La Liga and the English Premier League, which is the best in Europe?” Kamal stepped up for La Liga Star and launched into his 45-second performance. After him, Fidel stepped up for Fidek FC and he carried the audience with him far better than Kamal. The margin as voted by the audience turned out to be 70:30 and finally the game had a goal in favour of Fidek FC with one round remaining in normal time.

It was Kingsley’s turn to step out for Fidek FC on the Show Your Passion segment alongside Dele for La Liga Star. Their performances were more evenly matched this time and the result was on a knife-edge. Who would the crowd go for? With N1 million on the line for Fidek or extra time for La Liga Star, the crowd voted – Kingsley for Fidek FC and the game was over!

Fidek FC’s motley crew, already the first team on Star Football Superfans to feature a woman and be captained by a woman, thus also got to walk away with the N1 million grand prize and this week’s bragging rights to be called ultimate fans while La Liga Star had to make do with the N100,000 consolation prize.

Speaking afterward, Edem Vindah remarked,

“Tonight was fantastic. You couldn’t ask for more. Drama, entertainment and some solid takeaways from the game. Nigerians now know how far Star will go to provide a platform for everyone to shine regardless of background or gender. The first woman on this platform was not just an also-ran, but she captained the team to victory. That is a powerful story and that is the kind of story Star promotes through this platform. Congratulations to Fidek FC!”

After a massively successful debut season featuring appearances from fans of some of the world’s biggest football clubs including Arsenal, AC Milan, Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester United, the second season of the Star Football Superfans platform is now open for football fans across the country to display their knowledge and passion for Nigeria’s number one sport and get rewarded for it.

Star Superfans airs every Thursday on Africa Magic Channel 154 at 8pm and every Friday on E-Nolly Channel 106 on ACTV, 8pm.
