Man United Win On Penalties Against Chelsea on Star Super fans Football Game Show

The Commandos, made up of Okotu Benedict, Ikechukwu Richard, Afekhena Ronson, Eletuoh Jude and Michael Ekemezie are the latest batch of Chelsea fans to feature on an episode of Star Football Superfans – and fall short once again. In fact, in 10 appearances on Nigeria’s biggest football platform powered by Star Lager, Chelsea fans have now lost 9 times.

Dishing out the latest defeat to Chelsea this week was Manchester United quintet Rafiu Ilo, Ezewi Osorachukwu, Babatunde Azeez, Eloka Okoye and Frank Ezeh known as Red Stars. Interestingly enough, the game kicked off on a decidedly even note as both sides scored successive ten pointers to cancel each other out. They remained neck-in-neck until the end of the first half, missing their subsequent 20 pointers before host Moze Praiz signaled halftime.

After the break, Jude and Eloka came out for Commandos and Red Stars respectively to debate the question, “Will Manchester United regret losing Pedro to Chelsea as the season carries on?” Jude delivered a flat debate performance for Commandos while medical doctor Eloka lifted the roof off the Superfans arena with a blood-pumping presentation. The audience expectedly voted for Eloka and it seemed that the pendulum had finally swung the way of Red Stars.

The Show Your Passion segment however put paid to such a notion as Rafiu and Benedict stepped out for Red Stars and Commandos. Despite exciting the audience with his performance, Rafiu lost the vote to Benedict whose humorous take on Harrysong’s Reggae Blues brought the entire audience to its feet in appreciation. With the scores at 1-1 after extra time, for the first time this season, the game had to be decided by a penalty shootout.

Benedict stepped up for Commandos and steadied himself – then sent his penalty just wide of the left post. Ezewi then stepped up for Red Stars knowing that all that stood between his team and N1 million was a successful penalty kick. With his face stern, he stepped up and back heeled the ball firmly – straight into the net! Red Stars had finally overcome the luckless Commandos to win the grand prize and the week’s bragging rights. At least Commandos got to leave with the N100, 000 consolation prize but again, the question remains why Chelsea’s record on the platform remains so abysmal.

Speaking afterwards, Corporate Media and Brand PR Manager, NB Plc Edem Vindah commented,

“The excitement and passion we witnessed on this episode is what this platform is all about. Star gives young Nigerians a platform to express their passion for the game and their loyalty to their teams and this is the kind of spectacle that results. It’s all about giving Nigerian football fans a platform to Shine and show the world that they have something special inside them.”
